Told will make some great strides this summer during our collaboration with Literary Lots. For a workshop and showcase on August 3, we will both move outside and expand our audience to a variety of ages.
Literary Lots brings magic and the power of imagination to urban kids by turning vacant, underutilized spaces into scenes from children’s books. It includes a wide variety of events from July 19 to August 10, all focusing on our connection to water, led by the book 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The events will take place outside next to the Carnegie West Public Library in Ohio City.
In keeping with 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, the theme for the workshop and showcase will be “Journeys.” Where did you come from? Where are you headed? Is there a memorable trip you can share? Since Literary Lots is committed to bringing the neighborhood together, think about how far your neighborhood has come and where it has come from. Journeys don’t only involve people, they can involve communities, too.
The workshop will take place at 3pm next to the Carnegie West Public Library at 1900 Fulton Ave. During it, Jack Ricchiuto will help storytellers of all ages learn strategies on how to zero in on a journey story and craft it into a cohesive narrative.
The showcase will feature stories developed during the workshop. This event will rely on audience participation, but like all Told events, you are welcome to come to simply listen to the stories. It will start at 4pm.
